Effective date: 2026-10-16 App: Chore Rota (com.sonith.chorerota), version 0.1.0 Developer: Sonith Contact: sonythm@gmail.com

Short version

Everything stays on your phone. The developer does not receive any of it. The Android build blocks the internet permission, so the app makes no network calls at all. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no crash reporting.

What the app stores on your device

  • People: names, colours, whether someone is a helper, away dates, and for a helper the visit days, visit time and task names.
  • Chores: names, rooms, points, frequency and rotation rules.
  • Assignments: who has which chore on which day, whether it is done, skipped or overdue, the time it was done, and any note you type.
  • Proof photos: the photo you take (or pick) when you mark a chore done. The app keeps the file location. The photo stays on the phone. VERIFY ON DEVICE: where the camera photo file is saved and whether it survives clearing the app cache.
  • Helper attendance: dates, present or absent, and notes.
  • Settings: week start day, reminder times, quiet hours, rotation options.

This data is kept in a local database on the phone (SQLite) and in the app's storage. The app does not add its own encryption beyond your phone's storage protection.

Data types, in plain terms

| Data | Collected by the developer | Shared | Processed on device | Optional | You can delete it | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Names of people (including a helper) | No | No (only if you share the week picture) | Yes | You choose what to enter | Yes, delete the person, or Erase everything | | Chores, assignments, notes, attendance | No | No | Yes | Yes | Yes | | Proof photos | No | No | Yes | Yes, never required | Yes (see Deleting your data) | | Settings | No | No | Yes | Yes | Yes | | Location, contacts, audio, device IDs, advertising ID | Not accessed | No | n/a | n/a | n/a |

Network calls

None. The app does not contact any server, host or domain. The internet permission is blocked in the app. It has no account system, no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising and no third-party SDK that sends data. The font (Sora) is bundled inside the app.

Permissions the app requests

  • Camera: only when you choose to take a proof photo while marking a chore done. If you refuse, the app opens the photo picker instead.
  • Notifications: to show the reminders you set. They are scheduled on the phone, with no push server.
  • Run at start-up (RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED, added by the notifications library): so reminders come back after the phone restarts.
  • Vibrate and wake lock: added by libraries for notifications.
  • The app does not use the internet, location, contacts, microphone or calendar, and it does not ask for broad access to your photos or files. The photo picker is the Android system picker.

Notifications

Reminders are shown on your lock screen according to your Android settings. They can include people's names and chore names, for example "Today: 3 chores" with "Sam: dishes, bins". Overdue reminders can name the late chores and who has them; the setting "Name overdue chores" in Reminders turns that off, and then you get a count only. Anyone who sees your lock screen can read them. You can turn notifications off in the app or in Android, or hide sensitive content on the lock screen.

Sharing

"Share week" turns the weekly grid into a picture and opens your phone's share sheet. The picture contains the names and chores shown for that week. It goes only to the app you pick, such as a messaging app, and only when you tap share. That app's own privacy policy then applies. The developer never receives it.

Backups

Android may include app data in its own device backup (for example Google backup) if you have turned that on in your device settings. That is controlled by you and your device provider, not by this app.

Security

Data is kept in the app's private storage, which other apps cannot read under normal Android rules. The app adds no encryption of its own. Nothing is transmitted.

How to delete your data

  • In the app: Settings, then "Erase everything". This clears the app's database (people, chores, assignments, attendance, settings) and cancels all reminders.
  • Delete a person or a chore inside the app.
  • Or uninstall the app, or clear its storage from Android settings. This also removes the photos the app stored.
  • Photo files created by the camera are not deleted by "Erase everything" in the current version. Uninstalling or clearing storage removes them. VERIFY ON DEVICE.
  • Pictures you shared out of the app are copies held by other apps. Delete those there.

The developer holds no copy, so there is nothing to request from the developer.

Children

The app is not directed at children. It does not collect personal information and cannot send any off the device. Families may use it to plan chores for children. A parent or other adult enters the names, and the adult manages and deletes that data. Children do not need their own account because there are none. Do not enter details you do not want on the phone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at the same address with a new effective date.
