Privacy Policy: Flashcards from Screenshots

Effective date: 2026-10-16 App: Flashcards from Screenshots (com.sonith.flashcards), version 0.1.0 Developer: Sonith Contact: sonythm@gmail.com

Summary

The app does not collect your data. It has no account, no analytics, no advertising and no servers. It makes no network calls. The Android internet permission is blocked in the app, so it cannot connect to any host.

What is stored on your device

  • Your decks and cards: front and back text, tags, and the name of the app a screenshot came from, if known.
  • Screenshots you choose to keep on a card. The card stores a reference to the image file. VERIFY ON DEVICE: whether that image stays after the original screenshot is deleted or the cache is cleared.
  • Review history and scheduling data: grades, intervals, dates.
  • Settings: daily limits, reminder time, quiet days and hours, keep-image default, demo mode.

This data is in a local database in the app's private storage. It is not sent anywhere by the app. A screenshot can show anything, including other people's messages, so keep that in mind before you add it.

Data types, in plain terms

| Data | Collected by the developer | Shared | Processed on device | Optional | You can delete it | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Card text (from typing, import or text recognition) | No | No (only if you export) | Yes | Yes | Yes, delete the card, deck, or Delete all data | | Screenshots and images you add | No | No | Yes | Yes | Yes | | Review history and settings | No | No | Yes | Yes | Yes | | Location, contacts, audio, device IDs, advertising ID | Not accessed | No | n/a | n/a | n/a |

Network calls

None. The app declares no internet access. Text recognition runs on the phone using Google ML Kit's on-device model, which is bundled in the app. Fonts are bundled.

Permissions

  • Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS): to show the study reminder and the streak nudge you set. They say how many cards are due. If you refuse, the app works without reminders.
  • Run at start-up (RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED, added by the notifications library): so reminders come back after the phone restarts.
  • Photos: the app opens the Android photo picker only when you choose to pick a screenshot. It reads only the image you select. It does not ask for access to all your photos.
  • Share target: the app appears in the share sheet so you can send it an image or text. It receives only what you share.
  • Files: Import opens the Android file picker. The app reads only the file you pick.
  • Vibrate and wake lock: added by libraries for notifications.

The app does not use the internet, location, contacts, calendar or SMS. The app does not record audio or use the camera. VERIFY ON DEVICE: Android Settings, Apps, Flashcards, Permissions shows no microphone or camera entry in the release build.

Notifications

Notifications show only counts, for example "12 cards are due", and your streak length. They show no card text.

Sharing

Data leaves your phone only when you use Export and send the file yourself, for example by email or to another app. The CSV or Anki file has your card text and, for Anki, scheduling data. It has no images. Once you share a file, that app's own policy applies.

Backups

Android may include app data in its own device backup (for example Google backup) if you have turned that on in your device settings. That is controlled by you and your device provider, not by this app.

Security

Data is kept in the app's private storage, which other apps cannot read under normal Android rules. The app adds no encryption of its own. Nothing is transmitted.

Analytics and ads

None. No advertising, tracking, analytics or crash-report libraries.

Deleting your data

  • Delete single cards or decks inside the app.
  • Settings, Delete all data removes all cards, decks, history and settings from the app's database.
  • Uninstalling the app removes everything the app stored.
  • Files you exported are copies outside the app. Delete them where you saved them.

Because the developer holds no copy, there is nothing to request from the developer.

Children

The app is a general study tool. It is not directed at children, and it collects no personal information from anyone. Parents may use it with their children and manage what is entered.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at the same address with a new effective date.
