Short version
Puzzle Tree is a learning app for children.
- Everything stays on your phone, and the developer receives nothing.
- The app has no internet permission, so it cannot send any data.
- There are no ads, no in-app purchases, no accounts, no analytics, no tracking and no crash reporting.
- The only thing it stores about a child is a nickname you choose.
Children's privacy
Puzzle Tree is designed for children aged about 5 to 12 and follows Google Play's Families policy.
- No personal information is collected from children. The app does not ask for a child's real name, age, birthday, photo, voice, location, contact details, school or device identifiers.
- A nickname only. A parent or guardian types a nickname, such as "Star" or a first name, and chooses an age group. Both stay on the phone and are used only to show the child's own tree.
- No ads and no ad identifiers. The app shows no advertising. It does not use the Android advertising ID: that permission is blocked.
- No third-party SDKs that collect data, no social features, no chat, no sharing for children, no purchases and no links out of the app.
- Grown-up area. Settings, progress reports, reminders, backup and delete are behind a parent gate. A grown-up holds a button for 3 seconds and types a four-digit number written in words. Three wrong answers lock the gate for 30 seconds.
- COPPA and similar laws. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, or from anyone. Nothing is transmitted, so nothing is held by the developer that could be reviewed or deleted on request. You can delete everything on the phone at any time (see below).
What the app stores on your device
- Child profiles: nickname, age group (5–7, 8–10 or 11–12), the subjects switched on, a colour, and the current difficulty level for each subject.
- Progress: stars for each level, rounds played (date, number of puzzles, how many were right first time, minutes played), badges, and the puzzles to practise again.
- Settings: the active child, and the reminder time and quiet hours.
This data is kept in a local database (SQLite) in the app's private storage.
Data types, in plain terms
| Data | Collected by the developer | Shared | Processed on device | Optional | You can delete it | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Nickname and age group | No | No | Yes | Yes | Yes | | Learning progress and time played | No | No | Yes | Yes | Yes | | Settings | No | No | Yes | Yes | Yes | | Location, contacts, photos, audio, device IDs, advertising ID | Not accessed | No | n/a | n/a | n/a |
Network calls
None. The internet permission is blocked in the app. All puzzles, facts and fonts are built into the app. The privacy policy address is shown as plain text in the grown-up area. The app does not open it.
Permissions
- Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS): only if a grown-up turns on the daily reminder. Reminders are scheduled on the phone, with no push server. The text is generic ("Puzzle time!") and never includes a child's nickname.
- Run at start-up, vibrate, wake lock: added by the notifications library so reminders survive a restart.
- Blocked: internet, network state, camera, microphone, location, storage, drawing over other apps, push messaging and the advertising ID.
- To import a backup, the app uses Android's system file picker, so it needs no storage permission.
Backups and sharing
- Android's automatic cloud backup is switched off for this app (
allowBackupis false). - A grown-up can export a backup file from the parent area. It goes through Android's share sheet, to a place the grown-up chooses. The file contains nicknames, progress and settings. Once it is shared, the receiving app's privacy policy applies. The developer never receives it.
- Children cannot reach sharing: it is only in the parent area.
How to delete data
- In the parent area:
- Edit child, Reset progress: removes a child's stars, history and badges.
- Delete child: removes the child's profile and progress.
- Backup and reset, Delete everything: clears all data and cancels reminders.
- Uninstalling the app, or clearing its storage in Android settings, also removes everything.
- The developer holds no copy, so there is nothing to request from the developer.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at the same address with a new effective date.
