Effective date: 2026-10-17 App: Warranty Vault (com.sonith.warrantyvault), version 0.1.0 Developer: Sonith Contact: sonythm@gmail.com Policy address: https://sonythm.github.io/sonith-apps/warranty-vault/
Short version
Everything stays on your phone. The developer does not receive any of it. The Android build blocks the internet permission, so the app makes no network calls. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no crash reporting.
What the app stores on your device
- Items you add: name, type, brand, model, serial number, policy, licence or registration number, purchase date and price, store, warranty length and end date, notes, tags, extra dates (such as PUC or service), service history and reminder settings.
- Family members: names and colours you type, so an item can say who it belongs to.
- Documents: photos you take or choose and PDFs you pick. The app copies them into its own private storage on the phone. They can include bills, warranty cards, insurance policies, a driving licence, an RC book and similar documents, which may contain personal details and ID numbers.
- Text read from a photo. The text is used to fill in the item form. The app keeps the text only while you review it. It is not saved unless you type it into a field.
- Settings: reminder days and time, quiet hours and other switches.
Items, members and settings are kept in a local database (SQLite). Documents are files in the private storage of the app. The app adds no encryption of its own beyond your phone's storage protection.

Network calls
None. The app does not contact any server, host or domain. The internet permission is blocked in the app. It has no account system, no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising and no third-party service that receives data. The font (Plus Jakarta Sans) and the text recognition model are bundled inside the app.
Reading text from photos
Text in photos is read on your phone by Google ML Kit text recognition, using a model that is bundled with the app. The photo is not sent anywhere.
Permissions the app requests
- Camera: only when you choose to take a photo of a document. If you refuse, you can choose a photo with the Android photo picker instead.
- Notifications: to show the reminders you set. They are scheduled on the phone, with no push server.
- Run at start-up (RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED), vibrate and wake lock: added by the notifications library so reminders come back after the phone restarts.
- The app does not use the internet, location, contacts, microphone or calendar. It does not ask for broad access to your photos or files. Choosing a photo uses the Android photo picker, and choosing a PDF or a backup file uses the Android document picker; the app only receives the file you pick.
Notifications
Reminders appear on your lock screen according to your Android settings. They can include the name of an item and its end date, for example "Samsung fridge: Warranty ends 12 Mar 2027, in 7 days". Anyone who sees your lock screen can read them. The setting "Hide names on the lock screen" in Reminders replaces the names with a general message. You can also turn notifications off in the app or in Android.
Sharing
When you tap Share in the claim helper or on a document, the app opens your phone's share sheet with the text or file you chose. It goes only to the app you pick, such as a messaging app, and only when you tap share. That app's own privacy policy then applies. The developer never receives it. "Export my records" creates a JSON file of your items and opens the share sheet in the same way.
Backups
The export file contains your records (items, family members, settings) and the names of your document files. It does not contain the photos or PDFs. Where you save it is your choice. Android Auto Backup is turned off for this app (allowBackup is false), so Google does not back up its data automatically.
Security
Data is kept in the private storage of the app, which other apps cannot read under normal Android rules. Nothing is transmitted. Documents on your phone are only as safe as your phone, so use a screen lock.
How to delete your data
- In the app: delete an item (its photos and PDFs are deleted too), delete a single file from the document viewer, or Settings, Erase everything. Erase everything deletes all items, family members, settings, every stored photo and PDF, and all scheduled reminders.
- Or uninstall the app, or clear its storage in Android settings.
- Files you shared out of the app, or saved from an export, are copies held elsewhere. Delete those there.
The developer holds no copy, so there is nothing to request from the developer.
Children
The app is not directed at children. It does not collect personal information and cannot send any off the device.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at the same address with a new effective date.
