WiFi Guardian Privacy Policy

Effective date: 2026-10-19 App: WiFi Guardian (com.sonith.wifiguardian), version 0.1.0 Developer: Sonith Contact: sonythm@gmail.com URL: https://sonythm.github.io/sonith-apps/wifi-guardian/

Short version

The developer collects nothing. Your device list, names, history and settings stay on your phone. Your router password is kept in the phone's secure keystore. The app talks only to your own router over your home network. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no crash reporting.

Who this app is for

WiFi Guardian is for adults who own a home router and want to manage the devices on their own home network. It is not directed at children.

What the app stores on your phone

  • Router connection: the router's local address, the username, and the router password. The password is stored in the Android secure keystore (iOS Keychain), not in plain files.
  • Parent PIN: kept as a salted hash in the secure keystore, never as the digits themselves.
  • Devices: for each device on your network, its name, MAC address, IP address, maker name (looked up in a list bundled inside the app), the profile you assigned, and its pause and bedtime settings.
  • History: a log of when devices joined or were paused, and of rules you changed, kept on the phone so you can review it.
  • Settings: filter choices, custom blocked sites, loophole protection switches, and the approve-new-devices mode.

None of this is sent to the developer or to any server of the developer.

What is stored on your router

Only rules: pause and bedtime rules, DNS filter settings per device, and your custom blocked sites. These are written by the app to your router and are under your control. The router also holds its normal data, such as the DHCP lease list.

Network calls

  • To your router: the app connects to the router address you enter, on your local network, to read the device list and to change rules. The app refuses addresses that are not on a private local network.
  • No other servers: the app does not contact the developer or any third party. It has no analytics, advertising or tracking software.
  • Blocklist updates: your router, not the app, downloads blocklist updates from the blocklist publishers. These downloads contain no information about you or your family. The app turns off AdGuard Home's cloud-based parental-control and safe-browsing lookups, so website names you visit are not sent to those services.

Permissions

  • Internet / network access: needed to reach your router on the home network. The app uses it only for your router.
  • Local network access (iOS): needed to find and talk to your router.
  • Notifications (only if you turn them on): local alerts such as "a new device joined". No push server is used.
  • Blocked: camera, microphone, contacts, location, overlay and push messaging.

Sharing

The app does not share data. Anything you copy or export leaves the phone only when you choose to share it.

Backups

Android's automatic backup is switched off for this app, so your device list and settings are not copied to Google's cloud.

How to delete your data

  • In the app: Settings, then Delete all data and Disconnect router. You can also forget single devices.
  • Uninstalling the app, or clearing its storage, removes everything, including the stored password and PIN.
  • Rules written to your router stay there until you remove them in the app or on the router.

The developer holds no copy, so there is nothing to request from the developer.

Limits of the app

The app reduces what children can reach on your home network. It cannot filter mobile data or other networks, and a determined person can bypass some protections. See the "Limitations" section in the app.

Children

The app is a tool for parents and is not directed at children. The developer collects no personal information from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at the same address with a new effective date.
